Cyclist Kristen Faulker is headed to the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

“I’m really excited. This is a dream come true for me. I’ve wanted this for a real long time,” Faulkner said.

Faulker grew up in Alaska and eventually made her way to New York City after college for a job in venture capital. Her career path was short-lived after a class in Manhattan got her hooked on cycling.

How Kristen Faulkner pedaled her way from Homer to Paris Olympics on Team USA Cycling

HOMER, Alaska (KTUU) - Olympic cyclist Kristen Faulkner first learned how to balance on a bike in Homer.

“There is this little gravel road below our house, and I remember learning to ride a bike on that road, and there are a lot of potholes on it and I remember, bumpity, bump, bump, bump,” Faulkner recalled.

Kristen Faulkner, who began riding as a side hobby from her finance job, is a medal contender at the 2024 Paris Games.

“I would honestly use the word ‘resilience,’” she said. “I’ve had a concussion. I’ve been hit by a car. And every time I’ve never lost my passion to keep going. It’s never a matter of if I’ll keep going. It’s just a matter of how.”

On Thursday, six athletes were announced to the Olympic Games Paris 2024 Track Cycling Team, including Kristen Faulkner of Homer.

Faulkner, 31, is new to the Olympic Team Pursuit squad. A Harvard graduate, she only started bike racing four years ago, unlike most internationally competitive cyclists who start much younger in life.
